Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, this contemporary estate ring centers on a pear shaped cabochon opal measuring approximately 6.77 x 6.5 x 1.6mm, held in a prong setting. On each side, a pear shaped tanzanite points outward, the pair measuring approximately 4.44 x 2.83mm each and totaling approximately 0.30 tcw. Four round brilliant cut diamonds, two above and two below the side stones, add accents of sparkle with a total weight of approximately 0.04 tcw, I-J color and I1 clarity. Size 7.25, with a total weight of 2.1 grams. Stamped 14K.
Opal is valued for its play-of-color, the flashes of spectral color produced as light diffracts through the stone's internal structure of tiny silica spheres. Tanzanite is a blue to violet variety of the mineral zoisite, named for Tanzania, where it is mined. Together, the soft multicolor glow of the opal and the deep violet blue of the tanzanites make a lively color pairing in a slim, wearable band. Both opal and tanzanite are softer than many gemstones, so this ring is best worn with care and kept away from hard knocks, household chemicals, and ultrasonic cleaners.
With its balanced, symmetrical design and everyday scale, this ring is a lovely piece for anyone who enjoys color in their jewelry. Opal is a traditional October birthstone and tanzanite is a December birthstone, making it a thoughtful gift for either month.
