Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, this estate ring from the 1990's centers on an oval cabochon opal of approximately 0.20 ct, measuring approximately 6.91 x 4.84 x 1.27mm and held in a four prong setting. Six round diamonds, set in two clusters of three on either side of the opal, total approximately 0.09 tcw, H-I color and SI2-I1 clarity. The band sweeps around the center stone in a gentle bypass design. Size 6.5, with a total weight of 2.2 grams. Stamped 14K.
Opal is admired for its play-of-color, the shifting flashes of green, blue, and orange that appear as light diffracts through the stone's internal structure of tiny silica spheres. Here, the opal's soft glow is set off by the bright sparkle of the diamond clusters, giving the ring a balanced look on the hand. Because opal is softer than many gemstones, this ring is best worn with care and kept away from hard knocks, household chemicals, and ultrasonic cleaners.
With its graceful bypass shape and delicate scale, this ring is easy to wear every day or stack with other bands. Opal is a traditional October birthstone, making it a thoughtful gift for an autumn birthday.
