This magnificent estate 14KT yellow gold brooch is a stunning example of 1960s fine jewelry artistry at its most sculptural, featuring a marquise cabochon nephrite body measuring 15.25mm x 6.75mm flanked by two (2) hand-carved nephrite wings each measuring 1-5/8" x 7/8", accented by two (2) round-cut pink sapphires totaling 0.08ctw as sparkling eye accents, measuring 2" x 1-1/4" in total and weighing a substantial 12.7 grams, stamped 14K yellow gold. The deep, waxy green of the nephrite jade wings and body is beautifully complemented by the vivid pink sapphire accents and warm yellow gold mounting, creating a jewel of exceptional natural material quality and artisanal carved jade craftsmanship. Please note: the wings and body are epoxied in place and the piece is offered as-is at a price reflecting this characteristic. Dates to the 1960s.
Carved nephrite jade brooches of this scale and ambition represent some of the finest collector pieces from the mid-century fine jewelry period, when jade carving and fine goldsmithing were combined to produce wearable works of art of genuine cultural and material significance. Nephrite jade has been revered for millennia across Eastern and Western traditions for its extraordinary toughness, deep green luster, and profound symbolic associations with harmony, protection, and good fortune. The figural wing design — evoking a bird or butterfly in flight — adds a powerful symbolic dimension of freedom, transformation, and the beauty of the natural world, rendered here with exceptional carved detail in a rare double-wing jade composition.
An exceptional find for the mid-century jewelry collector, carved jade enthusiast, figural brooch lover, or anyone seeking a significant estate 14K yellow gold nephrite and pink sapphire brooch of genuine 1960s provenance and artisanal jade craftsmanship, this piece is a rare and distinguished addition to any fine jewelry collection.
