Our Antwerp Diamond History - Adventures in Antwerp part 4
Tucked inside the old city of Munich, clustered around the medieval Frauenkirche, there was once a jewelry store. A lot has changed in the 164 years after our first-generation opened that store. But one thing hasn’t. We still get our diamonds from Antwerp.
With all our modern advances these days, we can make a phone call and have diamonds delivered to our door. So why do we make the 3,000+ mile journey to Antwerp?
There are roughly 240,000 independent jewelers in the US. Out of those, under 2,000 can buy diamonds in Antwerp through various buying groups. Less than 1% of jewelers have independent access to Antwerp. We are in that elite group.
This is an exclusive group that has privileges. Not just for us, but for you. When you buy an Antwerp diamond from Nelson Coleman, you know you are getting the best diamond possible. A diamond that has been hand-selected from thousands based on its performance and beauty.
No matter your qualifications and training, you still need to see a diamond in person before you purchase it. A diamond report is not a measure of performance or beauty. A diamond report is an assessment of a diamond's cut, color, clarity, and carat weight - along with a plotted diagram of its clarity characteristics and a graphic representation of the diamond's proportions. It is not a measurement of the sparkle or charm of a diamond. When your diamond is hand-selected by a GIA Graduate Gemologist, you're getting the best diamond for the best price.
It is easy to forget how rare and incredible diamonds truly are. Diamonds formed 3 billion years ago deep within the earth. It took the power of volcanoes to move them to the surface. They have been prized and treasured since 30,000 BC. They are used to celebrate the most special moments in your life. They hold your most important memories. And they can be passed down to generation after generation and not lose their beauty. That's why we travel to Antwerp to shop for your diamonds. When something is this special, you don't take the easy way out. You do it right.
My next adventure starts on March 21, what can I bring home for you?
Amie is a GIA Graduate Gemologist and has worked at Nelson Coleman since the summer of 2004. She lives to hand-select the very best diamonds to meet our customer’s expectations of quality and cost.
