The word “fob” comes from the German word “fuppe” meaning small pocket. Designed around the 1770s, alongside the invention of pocket watches, fobs were worn by both men and women, attached at the waist or to a belt originally.
Vintage Style
Waistcoats during the 1770s contained several pockets and it was fashionable to carry a watch in each pocket. The watches were either functional or decorative and became a way to promote personal style.
